These clients came to us with the layout of their kitchen well planned. We worked together to design work that would complement an existing mantle in the adjoining room. The columns hide a vent pipe for the island sink. The columns and frieze separate the kitchen from the rest of the open floor plan. This frieze also solves the problem of uniting two different ceiling heights at the opposite ends of the previously open room.

Pair of Bookcases
Design, fabrication, and installation

We had just finished building a kitchen (pictured above) for these clients when they asked us to design and build a set of bookcases that would make their sitting room unique. These massive units are 9'-6" tall and are each nearly 6'-0" wide. Fixed open shelving in the upper section is a full one and one half inches thick for rigidity. We produced the sixteen different molding details on these units with custom-made knives that were ground in our tool room. We joined the cabinet boxes with dado construction, the solid edges with tongues and grooves, and the face frame intersections with mortice and tenon joinery.
